Teacher Quality Institute (TQI)
W.A. Franklin - Director
TQI collaborates closely with the deans, administrators and faculties of the College of Education, College of Science, Engineering and Technology and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. A major focus of its programs has been to improve the content and pedagogical knowledge of both practicing and newly certified teachers as well as to improve the achievement scores of their students. Another major goal of TQI is to identify and recruit young people into the teaching profession. Several major initiatives have been developed by TQI that have helped ensure that regional school districts have effective teachers in their classrooms.
TQI has established significant partnerships with twenty-eight different school districts and many of their schools in West Kentucky. Emphasis has been placed on providing professional development opportunities for teachers, offering dual credit teacher education classes for area high school students, recruiting highly qualified individuals into careers in education, providing scholarships for students and teachers, planning and conducting activities for Future Educators Association (FEA) programs, providing alternative certification opportunities, participating in regional P-16 councils and seeking grants in math, science, and foreign language.
