Academic Program Director & Assistant Professor
Dr. Kenny Taylor joined MSU as the Academic Program Director and Assistant Professor of the Nonprofit Leadership Studies program in July 2013. Prior to joining the university, he founded Taylored Strategies, a consulting firm in Austin, TX who catered to nonprofits whose operational budgets ranged from 1 - 18 million. Projects while in that role included facilitating Board of Director planning retreats, population demographic research, acting as fund development counsel, marketing of events, and providing interim CEO services.
Prior to the above Dr. Taylor enjoyed a 12 year career with Big Brothers Big Sisters, which began as a part time Social Work Assistant in Louisville, KY and ended as the CEO of their affiliate in Austin, TX in April 2008. Though he was also employed by the national headquarters of Big Brothers Big Sisters for just under 5 years and recognized by them as a CEO of the Year Finalist in 2007 while leading their Austin affiliate, the accomplishment he cherishes the most is the direct involvement he had in improving the lives of thousands of youth.
Dr. Taylor is a 2007 graduate of Leadership Austin, secured the Sri Sri Ravi Shankkar Uplifting Human Values Award by the Art of Living Foundation in 2007, proud lifetime member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc, and a You're the Cure Advocate with the American Heart Association since 2008. He earned his MBA from Bellarmine University's Rubel School of Business and holds a BA in Sociology from the same institution. His PhD is from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX and dissertation investigated nonprofit leader traits within the Situational Leadership Model and pinpointed attributes that impact the four development levels of followers.
Dr. Roger Weis
Roger Weis received his B.A. and M.A. from Marshall University in Huntington WV. He earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership Development from the University of Kentucky in 1995.
Before coming to MSU, he was CEO for the Leukemia Society of America for the State of Virginia and before that he was a program director and director for Boys and Girls Clubs of America in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Prior to these positions, Roger served in the U.S. Army as a reporter/editor and community service coordinator in Nha Trang, Vietnam. It was his experience connecting soldiers with hospitals and orphanages in Vietnam that led him to a career path in the nonprofit sector.
While at MSU he led the Youth & Nonprofit Leadership (now Nonprofit Leadership Studies) department from 7 students in 1989 to over 800 in 2012. He was the founding chair or co-founding chair for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), Campus Connection Volunteer Center, Health Matters for Students, MSU center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement, and the Service Learning Scholars Program to mention a few.
For his efforts he as received 35 local and national awards including the Outstanding International Service Award, Distinguished Service Learning and Community Engagement Award, AH National Program Excellence Award, BBBS Volunteer of the Year Award (twice), and the AH National Award of Excellence in Leadership.
Dr. Bob Long
Distinguished Visiting Professor
Dr. Robert F. Long is a Visiting Distinguished Professor of Nonprofit Leadership at Murray State University, in Murray, Kentucky. Bob teaches organizational and leadership development in the Nonprofit Leadership Studies Program.
Prior to joining Murray State University, Bob retired from a 15 year career with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation where he served as a vice president for programs. His portfolio included the areas of philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, civic engagement, and traditions of giving.
Before joining the Foundation in 1993, Bob served as the endowed McElroy Professor of Youth Leadership Studies at the University of Northern Iowa, where he also directed the Graduate program in Youth and Human Service Administration. Bob started his career as a youth development specialist with the Cooperative Extension Service in Illinois and Nevada.
Born and raised in rural Illinois, Bob received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in educational leadership and evaluation from the University of Illinois.
Bob, his wife Patricia, and his mother Dorothy live in Murray. Patricia and Bob have a daughter and two sons studying and working in the areas of behavioral health, environmental sustainability and education.
Throughout his career, Bob has developed creative programs and focused his scholarship in the areas of leadership and philanthropy. He was listed three different times among the "Top 50" most influential people in the nonprofit sector by the Nonprofit Times for his contributions to the global emergence of nonprofit and philanthropy studies.
Gina Shipley Winchester assumed the position of Executive Director of Regional Outreach in the President's Office at Murray State University on August 20, 2007. Prior to that appointment she served as the Assistant Director/Co-op Coordinator for 13 years in Career Services. She also teaches a Nonprofit Leadership Studies class as an adjunct instructor. Gina started her career in nonprofit as the Western Region Director for the American Heart Association and worked four years in Paducah, KY. In the spring of 2006, Gina was elected to serve a three year term as the Staff Regent for Murray State's Board of Regents and served two terms as Staff Congress President. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's in organizational communication from Murray State University.
A Kentucky Colonel, Ms. Winchester is past vice president of Leadership Murray Alumni and past annual support chair for the Murray-Calloway County Healthcare Foundation. She served as a member of the National Advisory Board for the Walt Disney College Program, National Association of Colleges and Employers, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Higher Education Leadership Development Program, Order of Omega and Alpha Omicron Pi Social Sorority. She serves as ex-officio for the Community Education Advisory Council, West Kentucky Regional Chamber Alliance and volunteers with West KY Mentoring, United Way, Calloway United Benevolent Services (CUBS), American Red Cross, American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. She is a graduate of Leadership Kentucky Class of 2011.
Because of Gina's passion for working with non-profit organizations and her desire to make a difference in the world, her favorite quote is: "People will not believe the words of your mouth until they feel the touch of your hand." Gina is married to Donnie Winchester, Owner of Raceway Auto Sales in Murray, KY. Donnie and Gina are the parents of two children, Amanda age 20 and John Ryne age 16.

Aaron Dail is an Adjunct Instructor in Nonprofit Leadership Studies at Murray State University and the Giving Back Visiting Scholar for 2013. He is the President/CEO of the Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce, and has worked extensively in nonprofit leadership and capacity building. He has served as Executive Director of United Way and has been involved in several community wide nonprofit initiatives.
Mr. Dail participated in Harvard Business School's Executive Education program and has a Nonprofit Management Certification from Duke University. He holds a B.S. in Organizational Communication and a M.B.A from Murray State University.
|Misty Brown |
Misty Brown Lanham is an Adjunct Instructor in Nonprofit Leadership Studies at Murray State University and has been a program leader for the Discover Korea program. She graduated from MSU and her BS in Advertising, minor in YNL (now NLS) and MS in Human Development with emphasis in YNL (now NLS). Misty has volunteered at many nonprofit organizations and loves to give back to the community.
She has worked in the Institute for International Studies department for 6 years. She started as the ESL Admissions Clerk and is now the International Advisor. She lovers learning about new culture and has traveled to many different countries.
|Cindy Clemson |
Cindy Clemson began teaching as an adjunct faculty member in the Nonprofit Leadership Studies program in the fall of 2013. She has spent 21 years at MSU as the Program Coordinator and Associate Director of the Student Disability Services Office.
Ms. Clemson has a Bachelor's degree in Education from Buffalo State College, Buffalo, NY and a M.A. in Special Education from Murray State. She is currently completing an Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Western Kentucky University with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership focusing on Nonprofit Organizations.
Her prior nonprofit experience includes teaching for Head Start and serving as the Director of WATCH center in Murray, a nonprofit organization that works with adults who have multiple disabilities.
Ms. Clemson is often recognized for her desire to help students overcome obstacles in their lives and was voted "Outstanding Staff Member" by the MSU Student Government Association in 2009. She and her husband, Chris, have three grown children, all MSU alumni, and one new grandson.
A California native, Mrs. Esau joined the Nonprofit Leadership Studies staff at MSU in 2007. She received her bachelor degree from MSU and is pending her M.S. in Human Development & Leadership with a concentration in International Education Administration.
Currently she holds the position of Program Specialist in the Department of Community Leadership & Human Services. She also serves in a variety of roles on and off campus such as Community Liaison for the Office of Service Learning, board member for West Kentucky Mentoring, Inc., member of the Capacity Building Alliance, and is member of other various community groups.
