Important Information for Transfer Students

I. Apply for admission to MSU early! Students transferring from other institutions should be aware that CDI courses (communication disorders program courses) close early. In many cases, lower level CDI courses close during pre-registration. Pre-registration for the fall semester typically occurs in early April and occurs in early November for the spring semester. Students waiting until the summer cannot be guaranteed a place in the courses. In the worst-case scenario, this means that a student's graduation may be delayed a year. All students planning to transfer to the MSU communication disorders program are encouraged to apply early to MSU for undergraduate admission. It is recommended that students apply by early-February for fall admission. Although transcripts from other schools will not be complete, this will allow time for MSU to process your admission paperwork and for you to meet with an MSU advisor before the pre-registration process begins.

II. Check your GPA, especially if you're a junior! Most students transferring as juniors complete the bachelor's degree in two years, although they may require a few summer classes to do so. These students must qualify for admission into the undergraduate program by October 1st. That means you have earned at least 45 hours (you have to have 60 hours to be a junior) and your cumulative grade point average is at least 2.5. If you do not meet these two criteria, you will most likely not be able to finish the undergraduate program in two years. Be sure to speak with an advisor in the communication disorders undergraduate program.

III. Talk to an advisor early! Our undergraduate advisors will be happy to meet with you before you start our program. We can talk with you about courses that can often be taken at other institutions and help plan the most efficient undergraduate program. If you've never been to MSU, schedule a visit with Transfer Center by calling 270-809-3350.
