Endorsement in English as a Second Language

In keeping with Kentucky Department of Education guidelines, graduate students who hold or are earning a certificate to teach at the elementary, middle school or secondary levels may seek a K-12 certificate endorsement in English as a Second Language by completing the following twelve semester hours of coursework:

ENG 618 Introduction to Linguistic Science
ENG/TSL 634 Language and Culture
TSL 611 Applied Linguistics for Second Language Teaching
TSL 600 Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL

Other Degree Requirements

An oral examination is required. English as a Second Language certificate endorsement seekers are required in Kentucky to take the Teaching English as a Second Language Praxis exam upon completion of the above courses.
