Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

We are delighted to introduce this exciting new program in the commonwealth of Kentucky.

According to the Kentucky Department of Education, students in Kentucky’s public schools speak approximately 100 different native languages. Murray State University's Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program trains students in the development of knowledge and skills needed to succeed as teachers of the English language to non-native speakers in the school setting, from pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade. TESOL is a fast-growing field, and the need is critical in Kentucky for teachers trained in English as a Second Language instruction.

“We must choose what to teach as well as when to teach it. Some of the information within our reach is false, some is useless, some merely serves to puff up its possessor.”
– Jean-Jacques Rousseau
