Murray State offers the Bachelor of Music degree in music education and performance, and the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science degrees in music. The Keyboard Studies Major (BA and BS) is a singular program that requires study in piano, organ, harpsichord and synthesizer. There is also a minor in music. The MSU keyboard faculty has extensive experience in solo and collaborative performance, as well as combined backgrounds in keyboard literature, pedagogy, musicology and theory.

We have many opportunities for students in collaborative performance. Our new Clavinova Keyboard Lab prepares all music students in functional keyboard skills, composition courses are offered in the Music Synthesis and Sequencing Lab, and theory and aural skills are developed in the Computer-Assisted Instruction Lab. Student chapters of Sigma Alpha Iota, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Collegiate Music Education National Conference are active in the department.

Our high-rise Fine Arts Building and the renovated Old Fine Arts Building offer some of the finest music facilities in the state. The Steinway concert grand pianos are outstanding instruments for solo and collaborative performances.

Prospective students can arrange to visit our campus by calling MSU School Relations toll free at 1.800.272.4MSU and are encouraged to contact the keyboard faculty for an interview and complimentary lesson. The Keyboard Unit appreciates your interest and continued support of and we wish you a successful teaching year. Please contact us for any questions or special needs.
