Employment Forms

Every student who is hired by the Murray State Housing Office is required to complete the following forms prior to their first day of employment:

  • Section #1 of the Federal I-9 Form

  • Background Check

Failure to complete the forms may result in the  employment offer being rescinded.

Undergraduate Opportunities

The Housing Office provides many job opportunities that fit all undergraduate student schedules. Whether you are looking for your first job opportunity or looking to gain supervision experience, we have the job for you!

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Support residents through building a rapport with them, mediating conflicts, and offering advice and assistance

  • Campus resource and referral for students and support the mission of the Residential College system

  • Maintain a consistent presence in the building and foster community through intentional interactions

  • Support the mission of the Residential College Council through participation and collaboration

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate three to four programs each semester, hosting floor meetings, and create bulletin boards and door decorations

  • Open and close the buildings before and after each university break

  • Work the hall’s front desk, complete reports and paperwork, and maintain confidentiality and privacy 

  • Perform rounds and monthly health and safety checks in order to ensure community wellness and report facility concerns

  • Follow policies and procedures and address and document policy violations as they occur

  • Serve in an on-call rotation for a building 

  • Provide crisis management support and generate referrals to Residence Director or other professionals when necessary

Requirements: 

  • Full-Time Murray State Student

  • 24 Credit Hours Successfully Completed

  • 2.5 Cumulative GPA

  • 1 Semester Living in the Residence Halls 

  • Good Standing with the Office of Student Conduct

Benefits: 

  • Single room at a double room rate, with an $800 scholarship

  • 20 hours per week at $7.50/hour (hourly raises are provided based on time served in the position)

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate the Residence Life program  in conjunction with faculty College Heads in residential colleges of 200-550  residents in Murray State's Residential  College System 

  • Work collaboratively with a Residence  Director in the completion of tasks  necessary for running the Residence  Hall and communicate effectively in doing so 

  • Act as supervisor for a student staff of  8-12 Resident Advisors and 1 Desk Supervisor, with whom they staff and  co-supervise a 24-hour front desk operation for the hall 

  • Serve as one of the primary on-call staff  members for a designated residence  hall, as well as in an on-call rotation for  an on-campus population of approximately 2,500 residents 

  • Provide crisis management support in  collaboration with campus and community resources 

  • Enforce programming and other staff  requirements through ongoing training  and evaluation 

  • Serve as a judicial officer for conduct in  the hall 

  • Fulfill the responsibilities of the Residence Director in the event of their  absence 

  • Summer work opportunities available  within the department for camps and  conferences 

Requirements: 

  • 1 year Student Affairs, Housing, or relevant experience required 

  • Resident Advisor or Desk Supervisor Experience Preferred 

  • Enrollment in a Murray State Academic Program with a current cumulative 3.0  GPA (a 3.0 GPA must also be  maintained throughout employment) 

  • Start date:  January 4, 2023

Benefits: 

  • $1500 tuition scholarship 

  • Furnished residence hall suite with utilities and internet 

  • Approximately $800 per month before taxes (Assistant Residence Directors are compensated bi-weekly) 

  • $550 Flex (dining) dollars per semester

  • A parking permit and designated Residence Director parking space 

  • 10-month position with a 12-month option 

  • Opportunities given to serve on departmental and university committees

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the Residence Director with the supervision of the desk and mail operations

  • Complete hiring, training, supervising, and evaluation of desk staff

  • Maintain a desk schedule for day and night workers

  • Conduct regular meeting with desk staff

  • Auditing desk information to ensure accuracy in reporting

  • Maintain front office, answering questions, taking maintenance requests, distributing mail packages, and any other duties assigned by the Residence Director.

  • Desk Supervisor are required to work 10 hours per week

Requirements: 

  • Preference will also be given to those individuals with previous experience in a residential desk operation.

  • Previous experience in a secretarial/office manager position may be substituted for residential desk operation experience. 

Benefits: 

  • The Desk Supervisor is compensated for 20 hours per week at a $7.50 per hour.

  • Preference is given to those individuals currently living in the residential colleges or College Courts.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Rover Supervisors are responsible for ensuring an efficient Rover staff operation.

  • Rover Supervisors report to the Assistant Director for Residential Services.

  • Rover Supervisors are the direct supervisor and manager of the Rovers.

  • Rover Supervisors generally work 20 hours each week.

Benefits: 

Rover Supervisors compensated for 20 hours per week at a $8.00 per hour. Preference is given to those individuals who have previous rover experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

Day Clerks work between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Day Clerks are responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the front desk in each residence hall. Responsibilities include checking ID’s of individuals entering the building, answering the phone, being a resource for questions and concerns at the front desk, keeping accurate records, cleaning the office, assisting with reporting maintenance requests, distributing mail packages, and any other duties assigned by the Residence Director or Desk Supervisor. 

Benefits: 

The Day Clerk is compensated hourly at a $7.50 per hour rate when hired.

Primary Responsibilities:

Night Clerks work in four shifts between 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Night Clerks are responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the front desk in each residence hall. Responsibilities include checking ID’s of individuals entering the building, answering the phone, being a resource for questions and concerns at the front desk, keeping accurate records, cleaning the office, assisting with reporting maintenance requests, distributing mail packages, and any other duties assigned by the Residence Director or Desk Supervisor.

Benefits: 

The Night Clerk is compensated hourly at a $8.00 per hour rate when hired.

Primary Responsibilities:

Overnight Rover work in four shifts between 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Responsibilities include conducting security checks of the interior and perimeter of the residence halls, responding to emergency situations, investigating complaints, answering questions, and providing information to residents. 

Requirements: 

All applications will be reviewed; however preference will be given to those students who have a clean disciplinary record.

The Overnight Rover is compensated hourly at a $8.00 per hour rate when hired.

Primary Responsibilities:

Housing Office Student Worker is a full year position including summers.  Responsibilities include assisting in the everyday operation of the Housing Office.  Responsibilities include answering the phone, being a resource, taking messages, filing, assisting with card access, and other duties as assigned by the central Housing Office staff. Preference is give to student who can work over the summer.

Primary Responsibilities:

Maintenance Handymen are responsible for assisting with moving furniture, painting, minor maintenance and other duties assigned by their supervisor.

Maintenance Handymen are compensated hourly at $7.50 per hour rate when hired.

Graduate Opportunities

We welcome graduate student workers! All of the employment opportunities for undergraduates are available to graduate students as well. In addition, we have a Residence Director position only available to graduate students, please review the information below.

We have 9 Residence Directors that directly supervisors, works, and lives in one of our halls on campus. Below are the primary responsibilities:

  • 1 year Student Affairs, Housing, or relevant experience required 

  • Resident Advisor Experience Preferred

  • Enrollment in a Murray State Graduate  Program prior to start date (a 3.0 GPA  must also be maintained throughout  employment) 

  • Start date: July 1, 2023 (negotiable)

  • Must be admitted into a graduate program at Murray State. There are no specific graduate programs requirements for eligibility.

  • 6 Graduate- level classes paid for per academic year (e.g. 3 classes in the Fall,  2 classes in the Spring, and 1 class in the Summer)

Summer Opportunities

The Housing Office offers employment and housing over the summer as well. If you are looking to live and work on campus, below are

Student staff assist with check ins and check outs of summer camps and programs throughout the summer.

Summer Resident Advisors work in the summer school hall.  They will have similar responsibilities as RAs do throughout the year with programming, hall decorations, on call responsibilities, etc.

Summer desk staff assist in the 24 hour desk operations in all halls that are open for summer school, camps, and programs. Desk staff are able to live on campus at a discounted rate in the summer hall.
