Description
of the Coat of Arms:
The coat of
arms has been designed based upon research done by the student leadership team
in Pogue Library. Through their research they discovered the Coat of Arms for
the Duke of Richmond.
The
different parts of the Coat of Arms:
The Lion - the lion is in
the rampant stance signifying readiness to fight and protect. It was chosen
with the philosophy that the Members of Richmond College will help each other
to stand tall for the morals and ethics of our society and protect each other
from harm.
The
Crown
- the crown is the crown of the heir apparent (royalty). It was chosen with the
philosophy that the Members of Richmond College are the heirs apparent of
society.
The
Murray State University Shield - the shield is the official emblem of the
university - the shape chosen for the Richmond coat of arms. It's three stars
symbolize hope, endeavor, achievement. Also, James H. Richmond was the third
person to serve as President of the University.
Residential
College Emblem
- the official symbol for the Residential Colleges of Murray State University.
The
Motto
- Reach - symbolizes that the members of Richmond College will always aspire to
its moral and ethical code and to strive for each member's potential in life.
