Dear Students,

On behalf of the White Residential College students, faculty, and staff, I would like to formally welcome you!  I am the faculty head of White College and I hope to get to know each of you during the spring semester of 2012.  There are also many students and other faculty and staff who will be on hand to assist you as you make the most of your residential experience.  We are here to help you with both academic and personal needs and we want to know your interests so that we can provide opportunities for you to explore academic, athletic, or social activities that you enjoy.

We strive to facilitate lifelong learning among our students in their quest to become responsible citizens.  It is our goal to create a supportive environment in which awareness, growth, leadership and service are fostered through intentional endeavors and meaningful interactions.  It is our hope that you will find that the White College is more than just a place to store your things and get a good night rest, but a place where you feel at home, where you can discover yourself and the world around you, and where you can foster relationships that are life-long.

We strive to promote our students’ interests, needs, and welfare within the university community. White College RCC student body provides social programs and activities that help students make new friends and get involved through social and cultural or sporting activities. The Mission of the White College Honor Society is to encourage and honor academic achievement and to foster personal and professional excellence. White College Residential advisors support the university’s recruitment and retention initiatives by coordinating events, activities, and services that integrate new students socially and academically into the Murray State community.

We will inform you about our upcoming residential college council (RCC) and honor society events with our Offshore Newsletters and periodic e-mail messages. You can also meet with us face to face during our town hall meetings. The purposes of our town hall meetings are to allow you a platform for the discussion of issues, ideas and topics that affect and are of interest to you. The idea is that members of our White College community can reach out to the leaders of RCC and RAs in an informal setting - and have their voices heard.

In addition to the town hall meetings, you can make an individual appointment with our RCC to identify your needs and develop appropriate strategies to improve your living and learning.

Faculty participation is at the heart of the very existence of White college. If you want to do well in class, please take advantage of our one-on-one individualized tutoring services. Our professors are tutoring math, algebra, geometry, calculus, physics, chemistry, psychology, Spanish, and English. Our objective is to help you reach the desired academic goals.

I hope that you will enjoy participating in this lively living and learning opportunity at Murray State. Please complete our survey/needs assessment to the right, so that we can address your unique needs as members of the university community.

Please could you make an appointment with me? I will do my best to communicate activities and new endeavors to you, but please feel free to contact me anytime if you have a question, idea, or suggestion. My office phone number is (270) 809-6868 or 809-6151 and my e-mail address is chhanda.islam@murraystate.edu

I am looking forward to being a meaningful part of your college experience.

I would extend my very best wishes for a great spring semester!

Individually, we are one drop

Together, we are an ocean
