Assessment

Assessment

Assessments conducted in relation to the QEP are directly tied to the QEP’s two objectives. Assessments for objective 1 include faculty surveys to determine changes in faculty attitudes and perceptions towards writing, faculty surveys to gauge perceived effectiveness of WAC and other faculty development opportunities, qualitative evaluations of changes in faculty syllabi reflective of changes in faculty attitudes towards writing in general or in their discipline, and quantitative measures of faculty participation in WAC and other faculty development opportunities. Assessments for objective 2 include a continuum of writing artifact evaluation across required courses throughout the undergraduate curriculum (at all levels), the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) writing exam; quantitative measures of student use of the Racer Writing Center and other student writing services, student surveys to determine changes in student attitudes and perceptions of writing, and evaluation of differences in the accuracy of students’ writing skills self-assessment.

Evaluation of writing artifacts across disciplines and levels required the creation and training of a Holistic Scoring Team (HST). The rubric used by the HST for cross-discipline writing assessment is available here.
