Take Back the Night: The History

Take Back the Night rallies and marches began in Germany in 1973 as a protest against the fear that women encountered walking the streets at night. It was designed to give women a way to speak out against violence. The first U.S. rally was in San Francisco in 1978.  MSU organized its first rally in 1993 and has continued the tradition each year.

We invite our audience to imagine a world where people can be totally safe. We urge you to join with us and become part of the solution to eliminate sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and harassment from our campus and community.
