Jane Etheridge - Director (The Center will have a new director in Fall 2012 because Jane is retiring)

Jane Etheridge has been the director of the MSU Women's Center since January 1996 and has been a counselor at Murray since August 1991She oversees the coordination, training and supervision the middle school mentoring program G.R.O.W., on top of the numerous events that the Women’s Center sponsors each school year.  In addition, she serves on the Calloway County Domestic Violence Coalition and is one of Kentucky 's state coordinators for the annual National Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention Week. Ms. Etheridge is a Kentucky Colonel and served as the Counseling Director of the Governor Scholars Program from 1992-94 and the Counseling Director for the Commonwealth Honors Academy at Murray State from its beginning in 2001 through 2007.

Ms. Etheridge completed her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology at the University of Tennessee and earned a Master of Science in clinical psychology from Murray State in 1990. She earned a teaching certificate and a certificate in school psychology and has seven years of teaching experience, primarily with gifted children. Jane resides in Paris , TN. with her husband, JohnThey have four grown children and three grandchildren. 

In her desire to live longer and keep pace with a good friend, Jane began long-distancing running two years ago. After completing six half-marathons, she has become a strong advocate for running as a means of staying healthy, managing stress, and loving life. She also loves spending time with her husband enjoying a great dinner, an excellent glass of wine, and a great movie. 
 
Ms. Etheridge has a favorite quote that has sustained her for the past 15 years as she has devoted her career to improving the lives of women. She truly believes the words of cultural anthropologist, Margaret Mead:  "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.  Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

Meet the Spring 2012 Women's Center Staff


Amy Anglin is a senior from Dover, Tennessee. She is a History/Secondary Education major. Amy has been a part of the Women's Center for 2 years. She says that through the Center she has the privilege to study timeless women of our past. She enjoys music, reading, volunteering, running, coloring, traveling, tye-dying, baking and anything creative and hands on.





Anna Taylor is a junior from Caneyville, Kentucky. She is a Journalism major. Anna has been a part of the Women's Center for 1 year. At the Center, she gets to edit the website and practice her creative freedom with designing documents and fliers. She enjoys writing, photography and live music. 






Ashanti Wilson is a junior from Murray, Kentucky. She is a Youth and Nonprofit Leadership major. This is Ashanti's first semester at the Women's Center. She says that through the Center she will get to practice program development, counseling and organizing. She enjoys everything. 





Ashlee Cobb is a senior from Dyersburg, Tennessee. She is a Liberal Arts major. This is Ashlee's first semester at the Women's Center. Because she hopes to get her Ph. D in Clinical Psychology, she says that working specifically with women and women's issues at the Center will benefit her. She enjoys reading, movies and the gym. 






Audrey Harned is a senior from Paducah, Kentucky. She is an Accounting major. Audrey has been a part of the Women's Center for 3 years. Through the Center, she is the financial adviser, which she says helps with her major. She enjoys being a part of the Baptist Campus Ministry. 




Carly Mathis is a sophomore from Murray, Kentucky. She is a Criminal Justice major. Carly has been a part of the Women's Center for 1 year. She says that since she will be in the position of working with victims of violent crimes, the Center will help prepare her. She enjoys hanging out with friends, reading and scrapbooking.  





Chakeya Bowen is a junior from Brownsville, Tennessee. She is an Occupational, Safety and Health major. Chakeya has been a part of the Women's Center for 2 years. She says that she likes to keep people safe and the Center allows her to do that. She enjoys music. 





JaFayre Covington is a senior from Louisville, Kentucky. He is a Civil Engineering Technology major. This is JaFayre's first semester at the Women's Center. He says that at the Center gives him the opportunity for person-to-person interaction. He enjoys having fun with friends.





Jen Crocker is a graduate student from Nashville, Tennessee. She is an English and Gender Studies major. This is Jen's first semester at the Women's Center. She says that most of her major deals with gender theory and she joined the Center to do gender practical work. She enjoys video games, comic books, Dungeons and Dragons, scary movies and books. 






Kelly Herrenbruck is a junior from Madisonville, Kentucky. She is a Communication Disorders major. Kelly has been a part of the Women's Center for 8 months. She says that although we are all different at the Center, everyone has a right to equal opportunities. She enjoys Racer Band.  




Liz Ellison is a senior from Paris, Tennessee. She is a Chemistry major. Liz has been a part of the Women's Center for 4 years. She says that through the Center she gets to feel empowerment of women since her field is typically male dominated. She enjoys listening to music, hanging out with friends and being a feminist. 





Sarah Wang is a senior from Carrollton, Kentucky. She is an Advertising major. Sarah has been a part of the Women's Center for 2 years. She says that she loves the promotional aspects of the programming at the Center. She enjoys research, painting, movies and music. 



 

 

Shamiké  Stiles is a freshman from Union City, Tennessee. She is a Psychology major. This is Shamiké's first semester at the Women's Center. She says that working at the Center helps her promote mental health and healthier lifestyles. She enjoys writing, sports, feminism, and LGBT rights.

 


Stephanie Smith is a sophomore from Mt. Vernon, Indiana. She is an Elementary Education major. This is Stephanie's first semester at the Women's Center. She says that at the Center she will get to educate other people about women's issues in creative ways. She enjoys writing, drawing, acting, singing and colorguard. 



 

Tomeshia Ritter is a junior from Memphis, Tennessee. She is a History major. Tomeshia has been a part of the Women's Center for 1 year. While she says that her major does not tie in with the Center, she does love the information that the Center provides for women. She enjoys poetry, historical studies, singing and hugs.
