MSU College of Science, Engineering and Technology

Welcome to the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. On these pages you will find exciting learning opportunities in the disciplinary areas of biology, chemistry, geosciences, industrial and engineering technology, mathematics, statistics, physics, and engineering physics.

You can go to college almost anywhere; but in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology at Murray State University you can get an education that will give you an edge in getting that first job or in being accepted into the graduate or professional school of your choice. It is our people and the structure of our programs that make the difference.

Our faculty are recognized scholars whose state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research in areas like environmental and biomedical science are funded by agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and the Environmental Protection Agency. Like some of the finest liberal arts colleges in the country, we use our research program to enhance the learning environment for our undergraduate and graduate students, but we do it at a state school tuition cost! It is our belief that students learn science, mathematics and technology best by doing REAL work in these areas. To this end, Murray State students have the opportunity to work side-by-side with faculty trying to solve some of the most intriguing problems facing the scientific community today. Murray State students also have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience through our co-op programs. Our students, both undergraduate and graduate, have published the results of their research in national journals and presented their work at regional and national conferences. This kind of experience provides the edge needed when applying for graduate school, professional school or a job.

Our designation as a Commonwealth Center of Excellence for Reservoir Research and our Center of Distinction in Telecommunication Systems Management adds to our distinctiveness in the state, national and international academic communities.

There is little question that our education program is different than the programs found at many academic institutions. It is because of this difference that the College of Science, Engineering and Technology recently received a $1.5 million award from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute which identifies our pre-medical program as one of the premier programs in the country. The Hughes award is one of the most sought after recognitions of academic excellence presented in the academic community today, with only 53 undergraduate institutions receiving the award in 2000 from a field of over 1200 schools.

So take a few minutes to explore our web pages to better understand our programs as we welcome you to "a strong and focused college where our people make the difference." If you would like more informaion about our programs, please don't hesitate to call us toll free at 1-888-886-5715. Our faculty would like to talk with you.

Sincerely

Neil V. Weber, Ph.D.
