Application and Deadlines

Need General Questions Answered? Come on in!

Come to our office (179 Woods Hall) from 3pm to 4pm, Monday through Friday to talk to one of our student workers about general program questions, application questions, scholarships questions, or any other general questions you might have.

How to Apply

Apply on our online system, Horizons, any time day or night without the restriction of office hours and save planet earth as we go paperless. Thanks for your patience.

Please take a look around Horizons to familiarize yourself with what programs we are offering.  If you have any questions, contact the study abroad office at or by phone at (270) 809-2277.  When you have decided which program you are interested in, register on Horizons and click “Apply.”  You will only need to register and apply once per program.  The scholarship application is also on the Horizons system, and you will have access to it once you have completed the application for your program.

Here's what you need to apply online:

    • MSU Study Abroad Application
    • $50 Application Fee (must be paid online on Horizons application via credit or debit card)
    • Unofficial MSU Transcript from myGate
    • Personal Statement Uploaded into Horizons. This should address the following questions: Why did you choose this program?  What international travel/study experience have you had?  How will this program contribute to your professional and/or academic goals?  What do you expect to gain from your experience on this program?
    • Faculty Reference, requested through the Horizons system
    • Emergency Contact Information
    • If you are applying to a program hosted by one of our partners (CCSA, KIIS, GlobaLinks, CEA, Lorenzo de Medici), you will complete a second application with that provider.  See Horizons for more details.

After you have been accepted to your program:

    • Digital photo
    • Copy of your passport
    • Insurance Enrollment (You must do this for yourself online and upload a copy of your card to the Horizons system)
    • Emergency medical information
    • Flight itinerary

After you have completed the online study abroad application through Horizons, you'll be notified via email of your acceptance to the program and the next steps of the application to be completed. After acceptance, you will have several weeks to compile the list above.  Items turned in after the Post-Acceptance deadline will incur a hold on your MSU account.

Please remember that MSU application approval may not indicate approval with your third-party provider (CCSA, KIIS, GlobaLinks, CEA, Lorenzo de Medici).
