The Accounting Society is one of two student organizations sponsored by the Department of Accounting at MSU. It was founded to complement and enhance accounting students' academic experiences. The objectives of the organization are:
- to provide members with the opportunity to interact with the accounting faculty, other accounting students and practicing accountants,
- to encourage the development of leadership skills through the acceptance of responsibilities, and
- to assist in career planning, resume preparation and interviewing skills.
The Society works closely with the Career Services Office at MSU [100 Oakley Applied Science | 270.809.3735 | www.murraystate.edu/career] to provide assistance to members throughout all stages of the job search process. Membership is open to all interested students regardless of class standing or grade point average. Members include both undergraduate and graduate students.
Professional accountants from the region serve as guest speakers for each meeting. Speakers are carefully selected to provide information about technical matters, current developments, and the diverse career opportunities available in accounting. The Society's meetings are held bi-weekly.One or more professional excursions are scheduled each semester. These trips provide real-world exposure to public accounting firms, manufacturing concerns and other businesses. They often involve travel to metropolitan areas including Nashville, Louisville and St. Louis.
Membership in the Accounting Society at MSU will provide you with both educational benefits and social opportunities!
