In keeping with Kentucky Department of Education guidelines, a student who holds or is earning a certificate to teach at the elementary, middle school or secondary level may seek a K-12 certificate endorsement in English as a Second Language by completing the following 12 semester hours of coursework:
ENG 618 Introduction to Linguistic Science
ENG/TSL 634 Language and Culture
TSL 600 Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL/EFL
TSL 609 Foundations of Second Language Acquisition
Other Degree Requirements
An oral examination is required. English as a Second Language certificate endorsement seekers are required in Kentucky to take the Teaching English as a Second Language Praxis exam upon completion of the above courses.
