Greetings from the Dean

 Claire Fuller

Welcome to the Jesse D. Jones College of Science, Engineering and Technology. On these pages you will find exciting learning opportunities in the disciplinary areas of biology, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, physics, engineering, industrial and engineering technology, occupational safety and health, mathematics, and statistics.

You can go to college almost anywhere; but in the Jones College of Science, Engineering and Technology at Murray State University you can get an education that will give you an edge in getting that first job or in being accepted into the graduate or professional school of your choice. It is our people and the structure of our programs that make the difference.

Our student-centered faculty make their instructional mission a top priority. You will benefit from professors who are accessible, and who derive satisfaction in seeing their students succeed. At Murray State, you will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with faculty working to solve some of the most intriguing problems facing the scientific community today. Our faculty are recognized scholars whose state-of-the-art research in areas like environmental and biomedical science are funded by agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and the Environmental Protection Agency. Like some of the finest liberal arts colleges in the country, we use our research programs to enhance the learning environment for our undergraduate and graduate students, but we do it at a state school tuition cost!

Murray State students also have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience through our co-op and internship programs. Our students, both undergraduate and graduate, have published the results of their research in national journals and presented their work at regional and national conferences. This kind of experience provides the edge needed when applying for graduate school, professional school or a job.

Our designation as a Commonwealth Center of Excellence for Reservoir Research and our Center of Distinction in Telecommunication Systems Management adds to our unique position in the state, national and international academic communities. And as our world becomes smaller, affordable study abroad experiences, ranging in duration from one week to one year, are available and encouraged.

There is little question that the educational experience we provide is different from that offered at many academic institutions. So take a few minutes to explore our web pages and familiarize yourself with our many degree options. I encourage you to visit our prospective students link to arrange a visit, or call any of our departments to find the answers to questions you might have. Welcome to Murray, I know you will feel at home.
