Scholarships

Many scholarship opportunities are available. Scholarships range from general scholarships for any student who meets basic requirements to those sponsored by companies and individuals specifically targeted toward Occupational Safety and Health students.

The following listed scholarships were awarded during the 2007-2008 academic year.

ASSE Audubon Chapter Scholarship

Revised for Fall 2009 Semester

Sponsor: Audubon ASSE Chapter
Award: One $1,500.00 Award
Due Date: December 31, 2009
Eligibility Criteria:
   o Undergraduate Student (GPA 2.80 or higher)
   o Graduate Student (GPA 3.0 or higher)
   o Must be scheduled to graduate after May 2010
   o Accumulated a minimum of 60 credit hours toward Health and Safety degree of closely related field. Currently enrolled in 12 credit hours (undergraduate) or 9 credit hours (graduate).
   o Live, work, or attend school in ASSE Audubon Chapter coverage area. The Audubon Chapter area includes the Kentucky counties of Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Union, and Webster and the Indiana counties of Dubois, Gibson, Knox, Daviess, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick.
   o In lieu of the residency requirement above, you may apply if you have an immediate family member who is an ASSE chapter member)

Middle Tennessee ASSE Chapter Scholarship

Award: No specified award amount or number of awards but usually the award is significant with more than one given.

 Eligibility Criteria:
   o Undergraduate Student, completed 60 hours (GPA 3.00), Graduate Student (GPA 3.50)
   o Major or Area in Occupational Safety and Health
   o Active member of the MSU Student Section of ASSE & current ASSE National member
   o Veterans given priority

Murray State University ASSE Student Section Scholarship

Award: One $1,000.00 Scholarship and One $500.00 for undergraduates; One $1,000.00 scholarship and One $500.00 for graduate students
Due Date: April 23, 2009
Eligibility Criteria:
   o 2.5 overall GPA for Undergraduate
   o 3.2 overall GPA for Graduate
   o OSH Major (Area)(must be officially declared)
   o Current MSU ASSE Student Chapter Member & ASSE National
   o Officially classified as a Sophomore or higher starting Fall Semester 2009
   o Completion of degree work no earlier than December 2009
   o 2008-2009 academic year MSU ASSE Student Section Officers are NOT eligible Application Requirements:
  Submit a completed application with the following attached:
   o Resume
   o List of university, departmental, ASSE or other safety & health activities you have participated in and any honors, awards, scholarships, etc. received for academic excellence
   o An original essay from 250-1000 words on the following questions: "Why are you seeking a degree in safety and how do you plan to give back to the safety profession in the future?”
   o Completed applications should be submitted to Dr. Fender.
   o Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Purchase Area ASSE Chapter Scholarship

Award: Two $1,500.00 Award
Due Date:  April 1, 2009
Eligibility Criteria:

   o Undergraduate Student (GPA 3.0, Minimum of 30 semester hours earned by completion of the spring 2009 semester
   o Postgraduate Student (GPA 3.5, Carrying at least 9 credit hours per semester)
   o Major or Area in Occupational Safety and Health at MSU
   o Active member of the MSU Student Section of ASSE & current ASSE National 
   member.
   o Completion of degree work no earlier than December 2009
   o Qualifying students must be members in good standing of the student section of the ASSE and have attended at least one Purchase Chapter ASSE meeting from August 2008-April 2009.

Kentucky Safety and Health Network Foundation Scholarships

Award:  Variety of awards are available
Due Date:  March 1, 2009
Eligibility Criteria:
   o Junior or higher status enrolled in an accredited occupational safety and health or industrial
      hygiene degree program
   o Kentucky resident or attending an accredited program in a Kentucky university
   o GPA: 3.0 (Undergraduate), 3.5 (Graduate)
   o Apply online beginning February 1.

Campus Safety, Health & Environmental Management Association Scholarship

CSHEMA Division of the National Safety Council
Award:
One annual $2,000.00 scholarship
Due Date: 
March 31, 2009
Eligibility Criteria:
   o Applicant must be a freshman, sophomore, or junior undergraduate student, or a graduate student.
   o Must be successfully enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours in good standing.
   o Must be attending a college or university whose safety, health, and/or environmental
      facilities staff are members of CSHEMA.
   o Mail the following three items: 
              1.  A completed application form.
              2.  An official transcript, and
              3.  An essay.
**All items to be mailed must be in one envelope. 
**It must be delivered to the National Safety Council with a postmark no later than March 31.

AGC of Ohio Education Foundation Scholarships

Eligibility Criteria:

   o U.S. citizen
   o Undergraduate in at least the second year of a 2-, 4- or 5-year college/university in the fall of 2009
