Q&A

Why did you choose Murray State?
Murray State epitomized the word “comfortable” to me. The small yet beautiful campus seemed to be an atmosphere in which I could feel at home, and the people on campus showed me a very close-knit community that enjoyed living in the Murray State environment.

Josh GaunceWhat do you like about yourself?
I like that I enjoy being with people. I am very much a relational person, which has been a wonderful compliment to the relational aspect that college has brought to my life.

What do you think makes the city of Murray special? The fact that Murray is such a small town allows for an almost lack of differentiation between the town of Murray and the University. The friendly people you see at the coffee shop or at church more than likely have some direct tie to Murray State, which creates an atmosphere of unity between the town of Murray and the students at Murray State.

Who is your favorite professor and why?
Dr. Amelia Dodd is without a doubt my favorite professor on campus. She has not only taught me so much about the field of health and physical therapy, but has also taught me the impact one can have on people’s lives by simply listening to and caring about them.

What is your favorite Murray State tradition?
All Campus Sing is a wonderful tradition that the whole campus and even the people of Murray get excited about and involved in. The friendly competition mixed with the genuine talent of many of the organizations involved make for a fun filled and exciting day.

What three things could you not live without?
First is my faith. The greatest joy I have found in my life is the fulfillment that comes from living in connection with and dependence on Jesus Christ. Second is my family. The love and support I have received from my parents and siblings throughout my life and college career has impacted me in ways that no one else could. Third is my friends. I could not have made it through college with my sanity fully intact without my friends pushing me and encouraging me every single day.

What is your favorite quote?
“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.” – Sir Winston Churchill

Josh says:

I dream to become a Physical Therapist and open up a private practice. The opportunity to help improve the quality of life of those around me is a passion that runs deep to my core.

Success is to pursue wholeheartedly that path which makes you most alive and passionate, and in turn attempt to impact and improve the lives of every person around you.
