Murray State Equine Center
The MSU Equine Center has much to offer to the student wanting to study equine science, or be involved in the equine program at Murray State. The Equine Center
currently stands two stallions as part their breeding program.
One of the stallions, Thesaurus, is a Thoroughbred that raced
very successfully. More information can be obtained on "Theo",
by visiting the Blood-Horse Register. The other stallions in a
QH reining horse, Papinata Fantasy.
Mares
are foaled each year at the facility which provides an excellent
opportunity to the students for hands-on instructions in
foaling, and their subsequent raising, care, and training.
The Equine Center consists of several facilities. These include the newly constructed Equine Instructional Facility, a stall barn for boarding student-owned horses, and a mare/foal facility. Some of the features include: barns for boarding of horses; a 40,000 square foot lighted outdoor arena; a 20,000 square foot outdoor arena; a 6,000 square foot outdoor arena; a hay storage facility; round pens; and a pasture riding area.
Equine Instructional Facility
The Equine Instructional Facility opened on October 31, 1998. Its construction was funded by the Higher Educational Equine Trust and Revolving Fund. It is used by the MSU Equine Science department and the Equestrian Team. The facility also offers a riding preparation area, two tack rooms, and a round pen.
The facility also houses offices, classrooms, and locker rooms. This
addition offers even more opportunity to increase the teaching
efforts within the Equine Program by having faculty, staff and
teaching classrooms more centralized. |
| Barn Facilities & Outdoor Arenas
MSU also offers its students a stall barn for boarding student-owned horses. An additional barn facility houses the university-owned mares, stallions, and foals, which make up the university's breeding program.
Outdoor and indoor practice arenas are also available for students and Equestrian Team members. Stalls are available each semester for students to board their horses. Rental fees are $400 per semester. For more information or to arrange for stall rental please contact the School of Agriculture's Director's office.
