The Murray State University Galleries, in conjunction with the Murray Art Guild and Art Education, present Side by Side 2017, on display in the Curris Center Gallery from June 4 through July 27, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Side by Side program was held in conjunction with Murray Art Guild and Murray State University’s Art Education program. The program was made possible through a partnership with VSA Kentucky, a nonprofit organization that provides arts education and inclusion programs for children and adults with disabilities, as well as funding from the WHAS Crusade for Children, Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Students with disabilities from Calloway County and Murray Independent schools were invited to participate in a series of four-week visual art studio meetings. Dr. Rebecca Williams, Assistant Professor of Art Education, led studio classes assisted by MSU Art Education students. At the end of the studios, Debi Henry Danielson of the Murray Art Guild forged partnerships among participants and artists in the community to complete collaborative artworks. Individual and collaborative artworks will be on display in Side by Side 2017. A list of participating student artists and their community partner artists is as follows: Lilly Higgins / Ann Flowers Gosser - mixed media cake
Christian Karns / Josh Riley - ceramic vase
Garrison Kelly / Wyatt Severs - wooden mallet
Mason McCallum / Joy Thomas - charcoal portrait
Jayson Walker / Terry Joe Sledd - accordion book
A reception for Side by Side 2017 will be held in the Curris Center Gallery on Sunday, June 4, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m.
