Printmaking
 

  Printmaking provides instruction in the history, methods and techniques of intaglio (etching/engraving), lithography, relief (woodcut/linoleum) and screen printing. Students are taught the traditional applications of intaglio, lithography and screen printing. Course work at the advanced level enables students to present ideas approaching each printmaking medium in traditional and experimental ways.

 

  Classes offered as part of the emphasis include:

  • ART 379 Introduction to Printmaking I

  • Introduction to the techniques, materials, and processes of relief, intaglio, lithography and screen printing. Composition and technique are emphasized. ART 101, 201, 111 and 112 are prerequisites for art majors only.

  • ART 380 Printmaking II
  • Further exploration of the techniques, processes, tools and equipment related to the four major graphic art processes. Individual investigation, composition and technique are emphasized. Prerequisite: ART 379.

  • ART 381 Printmaking III
  • Continuation of ART 380. Prerequisite: ART 380.

  • ART 480 Printmaking IV
  • Advanced problems, Concentrated study of selected printmaking processes with emphasis on personal expression. Individual direction and technical proficiency are emphasized. Criticism and discussion. Prerequisite: two courses in printmaking.

  • ART 481 Printmaking V
  • Continuation of ART 480. Prerequisite: ART 480.

  • ART 580 Printmaking IV
  • Advanced problems, Concentrated study of selected printmaking processes with emphasis on personal expression. Individual direction and technical proficiency are emphasized. Criticism and discussion. Prerequisite: two courses in printmaking.

  • ART 581 Printmaking V
  • Continuation of ART 480. Prerequisite: ART 580.

 
Facilities
 

  Printmaking has 2,607 square feet of studio space open 24 hours a day. Individual studio spaces for students with an emphasis in this area are also available.
