Sculpture
 

  The sculpture program offers a range of experiences in making three-dimensional art objects in a well-equipped studio. The studio accommodates the additive, subtractive and transformation processes.Equipment for arc, tig and oxygen-acetylene welding is provided for the teaching of additive methods. For the transformation process, there is an excellent foundry for casting bronze and aluminum, including facilities for several mould-making techniques. For subtractive methods, there is equipment for stone and plaster carving.

 

  Classes offered as part of the emphasis include:

  • ART 360 Introduction to Sculpture I

  • A study of form, space and surface through the development of 3-D sculptural assignments. Basic sculpture techniques involving additive and subtractive methods. Studio and lecture. Prerequisites: ART 111 and 112.

  • ART 361 Sculpture II
  • Further exploration of form, space, and surface and an introduction to more advanced techniques and permanent materials. Studio and lecture. Prerequisite: ART 360.

  • ART 362 Sculpture III
  • A continuation of ART 361. Studio and lecture. Prerequisite: ART 361.

  • ART 461 Sculpture IV
  • Selected problems involved in the sculpture process. Opportunity for directed study and studio work in a variety of three-dimensional media or processes. Emphasis on developing a creative body of work. Studio and lecture. Prerequisite: ART 362.

  • ART 462 Sculpture V
  • A continuation of ART 461. Prerequisite: ART 461. Studio and lecture.

  • ART 561 Sculpture IV
  • Selected problems involved in the sculpture process. Opportunity for directed individual study and studio work in a variety of three-dimensional media or processes. Emphasis on developing a cohesive, creative body of work. Studio and lecture. Prerequisite: ART 462.

  • ART 562 Sculpture V
  • A continuation of ART 561. Prerequisite: ART 461. Studio and lecture.

 
Facilities
 

  The sculpture area has 6,024 square feet of studio space open 24 hours a day. Individual studio spaces for students with an emphasis in this area are also available.
