"Chairing the College Day project for 8th grade students allowed me to put into
use what we were learning in class regarding program development and
leadership. It connected theory to practice, and provided us real life
experiences which I'll remember forever. It also allowed me to feel like I was
making a difference in the lives of children while I was in college."

Service learning is a type of experiential learning experience that combines
community service with specific learning objectives in a course. It provides a
way for students to perform meaningful service to the community while engaging
in study that is related to that service. Philosophically, service learning
reflects the belief that education should be connected to values, character,
and social responsibility.
Service Learning offers an introduction to the idea of civic engagement and
community responsibility while responding to students' desire to put their
education to good use.
