Diwali

Diwali - The Festival of Lights

Dinner - Oct. 31, 2008 - Winslow

DiwaliDiwaliDiwali, or Deepavali, is an Indian festival for all ages that celebrates love, health, knowledge, peace, and everything positive.

This is symbolized by the traditional lighting of firecrackers and earthen ‘diyas’ (lamps) around their homes.  A Hindu home may have as many as 1000 lights inside!  Lighting these lamps is a metaphor for the Divine, who overcomes fear, violence, envy, injustice, and all negative forces.

The focus of this celebration is on family, friends, and food.  It is a time to reflect on the past and dream of a better future for our world- one where people of all cultures and religions can live in peace.
