In fulfillment of its vision, values and mission, Murray State University supports the development and implementation of new initiatives on both an institutional basis and at
the operating unit level around the following strategic imperatives.
These imperatives define the special calling of every highly regarded
comprehensive university — yes, to impart skills and information, and
to create new knowledge … but to do so in a manner that strengthens and
nurtures the region which the University is asked to serve. MSU’s
strategic imperatives are not intended to serve as specific goals;
rather, they set the broad strategic direction for MSU—from which
innovative ideas and activities will emerge from each campus unit.

Murray State University serves as a nationally
recognized residential comprehensive university, with a strong extended campus and online presence, offering high-quality associate, baccalaureate, masters, specialist and doctorate degrees. Academic programs are offered in
the core areas of arts and sciences, agriculture, business, health and human
services, teacher education, communications, engineering and applied
