The
50 th Annual All Campus Sing at Murray State University
was the largest and most successful to date. Sponsored by
the Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) music fraternity, the MSU Alumni
Association and the MSU Department of Music, 23 student
groups participated in this special 50 th anniversary reunion
competition. The MSU Alumni Association provided $2,400
in cash awards.
The
MSU Telecommunications Systems Management (TSM) Department
StreamTeam streamed the event live on the Murray State website
reporting 1,695 on-line viewers, 120 in foreign countries
and viewers from 29 states and Washington D.C. The stream

SAI’s
instrument drive supporting the People-to-People Project
collected seven acoustic guitars, 40 student recorders,
one clarinet, one synthesizer, two trumpets, one alto saxophone,
one tuba, one French horn and one trombone. The instruments
will be distributed to underprivileged band and music programs
world-wide.
Mike
Mallory and Beth Bradley of WPSD News Channel Six served
as masters of ceremonies for the evening. Judges included
1957 Murray State alumnus and acclaimed MCA producer and
songwriter Jerry Crutchfield, MSU assistant professor of
voice Dr. Sonya Baker and MSU alumna Pam Russell who is
vice president of sales and sales marketing at Universal
Music Group in Nashville.
First
place in the Residential College category went to Lee Clark
College performing “Clark Prom”, followed by Hester College
with “Hog Wild” in second place and third place went to
Hart College performing “Grease.” In the independent category
first place went to the Honors Program with “Little Shop
of Horrors,” second place going to Sock and Buskin performing
“We Will Rock You” and third place was Black Student Council
with “Songs From Dreamgirls.” First place in the
fraternities category was Sigma Phi Epsilon with “The Office,”
second place went to Lambda Chi Alpha performing “Disney
Songs” and third place was Alpha Sigma Phi with “50 Years
of Greatness.” In the sororities category first place went
to Sigma Sigma Sigma with “Material Girls,” second place
was Alpha Omicron Pi performing “Dream” and third place
went to Alpha Delta Pi with “Alpha Delta Pi Racing Team.”
