Dr.
Bonnie McNeely, associate professor of management at Murray State
University , was selected by the MSU Alumni Association as the
2007 Distinguished Professor. Jim Carter, MSU vice president of
institutional advancement and executive director of the alumni
association, presented McNeely with the award.
McNeely
received a Golden Apple and framed certificate. She will also
receive a $1,000 cash award on Thursday, April 26 at a faculty
dinner in the Curris Center and will lead the faculty processionals
at the spring and winter commencement ceremonies.
Stephanie
Butler, a junior from Mayfield , Ky. , will receive a $1,000 scholarship
in McNeely’s honor. Butler is the daughter of Sandra Butler of
Mayfield and Phillip Butler of Symsonia , Ky.
Implemented
in 1964 by the MSU Alumni Association, the Distinguished Professor
Award has been bestowed on 42 other faculty members, including
last year’s recipient, Dr. Celia Wall, associate professor in
the department of journalism and mass communications.
Each
year, the Alumni Association solicits nominations from select
students across campus. A committee which includes former award
recipients then reviews the nominations and selects the recipient.
Student
nominations describe McNeely as a, “professional, well-organized
and enthusiastic” educator who “has a genuine concern for all
of her students,” and “obviously loves what she is doing.”
After
receiving her bachelor of science and master’s degrees from the
University of Kentucky in 1972 and 1974, McNeely earned her MBA
from MSU in 1980 and doctoral degree in business administration
from the University of South Carolina in 1991.
McNeely
first came to MSU in 1982-83 as a visiting lecturer, and returned
in 1987 as an associate professor. Known to her colleagues and
students as an outstanding international educator, she has traveled
with MSU students to Cyprus , England , Germany and Austria throughout
her years at MSU.
She
received the MSU Board of Regents’ Teaching Excellence Award for
the College of Business and Public Affairs in 1999, and was again
nominated for the award by the Management, Marketing and Business
Administration Department in 2003 and 2006. McNeely was honored
as a fellow of Springer-Franklin College in 2005 and 2006, and
was presented with a plaque as Outstanding Residential College
Faculty Member in 2006.
McNeely
has given numerous presentations around the U.S. and published
in many business and management education journals. Her professional
memberships include the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society,
the Institute for Supply Managers and Beta Gamma Sigma.
