McCracken County Networking Event Deemed Success

Murray State University alumni combined socializing and networking in August at Max’s Brick Oven in Paducah , Ky. Organized by the MSU Alumni Association and the McCracken County alumni chapter, the event attracted alumni across several majors and generations. Sonny Smith, McCracken County alumni chapter president and president-elect of the MSU Alumni Association, coordinated the event.

MSU President Dr. Randy Dunn challenged the 70-plus people who attended to support and also get the word out about MSU projects in Paducah . He also expressed gratitude for alumni who support the university at events on and off campus. Allen Ward, MSU athletic director, praised the athletic teams for having a cumulative GPA of 3.06 and for winning the inaugural Commissioner’s Cup awarded by the Ohio Valley Conference. The all-sports trophy is given to the program that had the most outstanding year overall. He also invited the group to the home football opener September 3 against Kentucky Weslyan. The athletics department provided Racer lanyards and certificates for football and basketball tickets as door prizes. Everyone who attended also received certificates for discounts on logo items in the University Store.

Patti Jones, associate director of alumni affairs, said the alumni association would like to work with other chapter presidents to schedule similar events in their respective area. “Networking socially and professionally is beneficial to everyone involved.
