MSU's Wellness Plan Wins National Award
The American Heart Association and Start! awarded Murray State University as a “Gold Start! Fit-Friendly Company for 2010-11” on February 1.

According to Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association, as a Gold Level Award recipient, Murray State has not only recognized the importance of a healthy workplace for employees, but has taken important steps to create a culture of physical activity at work.

“Promoting a wellness culture by providing support to employees and implementing physical, nutritional and cultural changes are extraordinary efforts, and we commend you and your employees,” Brown noted.

Initiatives of Healthy LIFE include an incentive plan that allows employees to earn cash rewards for healthier lifestyles, designated walking paths on campus with distances to fit individual needs, health fairs, classes to enhance physical fitness, and health education programs such as Lunch and Learn.

Paper-Mailed EOB's with $0 payment

Participants in MSU’s medical plan will not receive a paper-mailed EOB when the amount owed by the member is $0.  To see these and all EOB’s, log on to and select “Plans & Benefits,” or contact Customer Service using the phone number listed on the ID Card.  This initiative was implemented by Anthem in an effort to improve member communications, reduce member confusion, and streamline administration of the health benefit plan.

For members in the CDHP, $0 claim suppression will occur once no funds are available in the subscriber's HSA account.

Preventive care is free, only if.
.. your doctor marks the correct code number for your visit.  Only “Preventive Care” visits are free, so please be sure to request them.  Also, see what qualifies as preventive care at and check the two links at the bottom of the list of Health Insurance Information.

Administrative Notes

Notify HR immediately when a workplace injury occurs
Please be sure to contact HR within 8 hours at 270-809-2146 when an injury occurs at work.  If an injury occurs after business hours, please do 3 things:

  1. Complete a First Report of Injury Form found at this link
  2. Fax the form to 270-809-3464 (HR) and
  3. Call or email Lisa Dick at 270-809-2152;

Several critical deadlines must be met to report a workplace injury.  Contact Lisa Dick, who can respond to any worker compensation question you might have.

Send Unemployment Notices to HR
If your department receives a letter from the Division of Unemployment Insurance, please send it immediately via fax to HR at 809-3464.  When a former employee applies for unemployment benefits, Murray State receives a letter from the division that the person has applied for unemployment.  These notices have very tight deadlines for a response, so any delay in MSU’s response may result in a significant expense for the university.

Two Notes Regarding Personnel Action Forms
Questions about PAs should be first addressed by department heads, and then if questions remain, the department head or his or her administrative staff should contact the various approvers.

Also, a faculty or staff member should not sign his or her own PA.
