Information for faculty and staff

faculty study abroad ambassadors

Faculty Study Abroad Ambassadors (FSAA) are appointed by each academic department Chair. New this fall of 2008, the FSAA program is being implemented to ensure our MSU faculty community is aware of the study abroad opportunities available to our students as well as the opportunities for our faculty to teach abroad. This will in turn result in an informed student body with additional study abroad participants as well as a more internationalized faculty. This section provides details of the role of a FSAA, resources, news on what the FSAA's are doing, and a comprehensive list of the FSAA's at MSU. [More..]

international professional development opportunities

International professional development opportunities are a unique way for faculty and staff to gain insight into the many challenges our students, both those international students coming to the U.S. and those American students participating in study abroad programs, face as they adjust to a new culture. Experiencing the hospitality of our partners overseas while meeting the challenges that come with international travel is beneficial to our faculty and staff as it provides valuable first-hand knowledge of the processes involved in international travel and study. Many participants return to MSU with ideas for their unit influenced by the program, both those new to international education and those who are seasoned veterans. All faculty and professional staff are invited to apply for one of the opportunities currently available in China, Germany, and South Korea, whether a first-time or veteran traveler. This section provides details on dates, past program activities, costs, the application process, information on past participants, and advice for your program. [More..]

teaching abroad

Our faculty become involved in international studies through various avenues, not the least of which is teaching abroad. Without the dedication of our faculty who believe in international education, the Study Abroad Office of the Institute for International Studies could not and would not succeed. The faculty members who teach abroad and/or lead study abroad programs are priceless assets to our unit as we continue to grow, increasing student participation in study abroad programs and growing our quality academic programs abroad. Faculty are invited to propose courses on existing study abroad programs such as CCSA and KIIS or to propose new programs. Whether proposing a course or a new program, this section will provide you with details on how to proceed. [More..]

working with international students

Together, MSU faculty and staff form the core of MSU’s international education programs and services. Whether talking about international student presence in classes, residence halls, student organizations, or campus projects, faculty and staff are the central pillars that enable us to educate all students, American as well as international, to develop international knowledge, communication skills, and confidence to live and work in different cultural milieus. Whether our staff and faculty have had international experience or not, fostering international education across the MSU community is particularly challenging in a small and geographically outlying place like Murray. So whatever your campus role may be, teaching, advising, or providing any of the needed staff services to enhance international education, you may have occasion to call on assistance of one kind or another. This section lists services specifically devoted to helping you in any of the roles you have at the university. Short descriptions and contact information is also included. [More..]
