Information for faculty and staff

As Murray State University’s enrollment increases, there is a chance that you will be in contact with international students, either in a classroom setting or in an academic advisement setting. As their teacher and/or advisor, they will often look to you as a source of information. For your reference, we have included a list of services that are provided to international students.

Immigration Advisement

Immigration questions could include, but are not limited to, work authorization questions (Optional Practical Training, Curricular Practical Training/internships, and on-campus employment); transferring to another university; maintaining immigration status; and more. For any immigration questions, please advise the student to see either Bill McKibben or Mark Galloway, the International Student Advisors at Murray State University.

General Advisement

Students may ask questions about getting a social security card, changing majors, roommate problems, obtaining a driver’s license, and interacting with various offices/committees on campus (CTLT, Housing Office, ISAC, Food Services, etc). Once again, questions in this category can be directed to either Bill McKibben or Mark Galloway, with the exception of changing majors. Any admission question should be referred to Lori Brisendine, International Admission Specialist.

Shuttle Services

The Institute for International Studies offers a shuttle service to and from the Nashville International Airport every year in August, December, January, and May. Students should visit the Shuttle Service page or inquire at the Institute for International Studies. Also, each semester, there is a Saturday in-town shuttle service that visits local businesses. For more information on this service, please have students see Bill McKibben.

Visiting Scholars

Throughout the academic year, various departments may be contacted to host a visiting scholar. Our office will assist departments in issuing the necessary immigration documents and assist the visiting scholars/researchers in getting settled in at Murray State University. For more information on hosting a visiting scholar, please contact Bill McKibben.

These are just a few of the services our office offers to the international student and scholar body at Murray State University. We sincerely appreciate your efforts in working with the international population at Murray State. Please do not hesitate to contact our office for assistance.
