| Dear Friends and Colleagues: As the flood waters recede and we come to understand the magnitude of this disaster, Murray State University's thoughts and prayers are with the victims of hurricane Katrina, their families, and our colleagues and the students attending institutions in the devastated areas throughout the coastal south. This disaster will have a long-term effect on the lives of victims and the economy of the region.
Currently we are working with other higher education institutions and agencies to develop a plan of action to assist those in need and to provide educational opportunities to the students detrimentally impacted by the storm. Estimates of the number of students displaced by Katrina currently range from 60,000-110,000. While many of the details of our relief efforts have yet to be sorted out, I am confident that our campus and community will extend assistance to those in need with open arms and hearts. Working with relief agencies and religious leaders in the greater Calloway and Murray area, MSU is mobilizing resources to offer aid in this national tragedy.
Meanwhile, I encourage members of our university community to participate in relief efforts already underway. You will find helpful information and disaster-relief agencies listed on this web-page. As more information is available this page will be updated.
