Member Notes   Men's Invitational July 29 & 30

The season is progressing rapidly and it seems like the majority of us are familiarizing ourselves with our new surroundings. The physical changes that have taken place have really lifted the face of Miller Memorial Golf Course. It is a pleasure for us to serve you in these great new facilities. Judging by your feedback and that of our guests, we can safely say you all seem very satisfied too!!

Course Condition

One thing that has not changed is the quality of our golf course. Despite some untimely heavy rains making course maintenance very difficult, the grounds crew is doing a wonderful job keeping a very high quality golf course.

You may have seen a few new pieces of mowing equipment on the course. These mowers while extremely expensive are necessary to the maintenance practices at the course. These precise mowing machines are already showing their value through the quality of the turf appearance.

After 5 Special

To our working members, we are now offering a special cart rental rate after 5pm. For just $8 you can now have unlimited cart use until dark.

Junior Summer Camps Underway

This summer the golf course is playing host to 2 junior camps. The first session wrapped up in June. Run by Lady Racer Head Golf Coach Velvet Milkman, this camp had 38 participants.

It is wonderful to see so many young faces at the golf course and we must remember these participants are the future of the game! The junior camps are just one way we are trying to grow the game within our community.

The second camp will run from July 9-14, for children aged 12-18. This camp is full, but you can contact the pro shop now to get an early start for the junior clinic coming this fall. These weekly sessions will start August 21 and run for 6 consecutive Mondays.

Women's Kentucky State Amateur Championship Coming to Miller Memorial

Wow, what an honor!! In June 2007, we will be the proud host of the Women’s State Amateur Championship. This week long event is a tremendous way for us to showcase our golf course to the rest of the State. As a result of hosting this event our course will receive statewide media attention and attract many of Kentucky’s best women golfers!!

This is a testimony to the quality of our course and the new facilities. Not only will this be a huge event for the golf course, but also the community of Murray.

Our first Men’s Invitational is just around the corner. Entries are coming in, including those of several members. I am happy to tell you we are offering a members discount for this event. The regular fee for the tournament is $65, as a member the fee will be $45. Cart fees for the weekend are additional.

This should be a fun weekend of golf with many opportunities to win. The event will be flighted after day 1 of the event, which gives players of all abilities a chance to place!!

On Saturday, there will also be an opportunity to win a Club Car golf cart for a hole-in-one on hole No. 18. A senior division will also be available so don’t delay and sign up now.

What Are You Doing On Tuesday Evening?

Join us every Tuesday at 5:15 pm for a 9 hole scramble. We’ve been having an awesome turnout, now averaging 30 players per week, comprised of both members and guests, men and women! We’ve added to the fun by grilling out and having pizza on occasions after the golf. Again, this is a great way to meet new golfers, unwind and have some fun.

Congrats!

Mr. Frank Courter recently had a Hole-In-One on hole No. 18. He achieved his ace in our Friday morning senior league. The shot was hit with a 9-wood on May 19. Ironically, had his amazing shot happened later that day during the Racer Classic he would have driven home in a new Ford Ranger pick-up truck!! Instead he got a pat on the back and had to provide donuts to his fellow seniors the following week. Our congratulations go to Frank!!!! Thanks for the donuts.

Reminders

As a courtesy to our grounds crew and fellow golfers, please repair ball marks in the greens and rake bunkers. Also, please refrain from driving golf carts within 30 feet of the greens. The grounds crew works tirelessly to provide us a very well manicured course and this is just a little something we can do to assist them!
