Member Notes

It is wonderful to see a green golf course again and it’s even better to see you out enjoying some golf! The Bermuda grass fairways, tees and roughs have been a little slow in greening up this spring due to the prolonged cool, wet weather. On the flip side, the cool season bent grass greens are very happy, enjoying the warm days and cool nights, contributing to faster, smoother putting surfaces. We will continue to mow the greens at this height until the hotter temperatures arrive.

I would like to pass along a word of thanks to Dan & Sharon Jones who have both been working really hard to help beautify the clubhouse, pro shop and pavilion. Sharon prepared the planters located at each entrance door and the hanging baskets at the pavilion. The addition of color has done wonders for the landscape and makes for a pleasant, welcoming entry for our guests. Dan and Sharon have also been working on two new flower beds at the clubhouse that will really enhance the beauty of this great facility. Our sincere thanks to Dan and Sharon for their hard work in something we can all enjoy and appreciate.

We would also like to thank Scott and Susie Van Horn, suppliers of the plants from their nursery, D & G Landscaping & Nursery located at 7884 Highway 94 West.

Upcoming Events

Club Championship imageAs the season progresses, we will be having a few events of importance. June 21 & 22 will be the weekend for our 3rd Miller Memorial Club Championship. We moved the date of this year’s event to avoid the Father’s Day weekend conflict! I would encourage all of you to participate. Greg Lassiter, Club Champion, and Jeremy Snodgrass, Senior Club Champion, will be looking to defend their respective titles. The only requirements for this 36 hole event are that you enjoy playing golf and that you like to eat!! We will have a cookout at the pavilion following the conclusion of Saturday’s play. Even if you can’t play, feel free to join us for the cookout. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the clubhouse. Tee times for Saturday will begin at 9:00 am and Sunday at 1:00 pm.

MensInvitationalimageOur 3rd Annual Miller Memorial Men’s Invitational will be July 26 & 27. We’ve had some excellent golfers in the field during the first couple of years of this event, and the one thing that has remained constant is that everyone has really enjoyed this event. The fee will be $65, but as a member your fee will be just $45. I encourage you to sign up to play, and if you cannot, please sign up to volunteer. An event of this size requires some extra help and your time would be much appreciated. Last year's event brought in 125 participants from around the region, and we are looking to improve on that number once again.

Summer Junior Golf

Emails and flyers have been sent out, but just a reminder for those with children and grandchildren; our summer junior golf camp begins June 9th. The age range is 5-12 and instruction is tailored to the individual’s ability. The 4 day camp starts at 9:00 am and runs through noon. It’s a great way for young golfers to get some instruction, have some fun and burn off some energy!! The fee for the camp is $100. (Sign up now.)
