- University of Michigan Documents Center - Possibly the best maintained university directory to government documents. Well annotated. Includes on-line resources both within the US and internationally.
- USA.gov - the federal government's own subject portal. Easy to use.
- FedStats - the federal government's own statistical portal. Use the Agencies by Subject pull down window on the right to gain quick access to information in individual subject areas.
- Google/Uncle Sam - The government search section of the google search engine; excellent way to search for internet sites by subject.
- GPO Access - The Government Printing Office site; searchable; advantages include the location of full-text online documents, quick access to major federal publications.
- University of Kentucky - UK houses the federal regional depository collection for the state of Kentucky. This means they receive 100 percent of all federal documents and are required to keep them. A searchable site; good for locating materials MSU does not have.
- Agricultural Statistics - Published each year by the USDA to meet the diverse need for a reliable reference book on agricultural production, supplies, consumption, facilities, costs, and returns.
- Census of Agriculture - Contains data for all U.S. forms with sales of $10,000 or more. Includes number of farms land in farms, size of farms, value of land and buildings, value of machinery, selected production expenses, total crop land, irrigation of farm land, value of agricultural products, inventory and sales of livestock and poultry and major crops harvested.
- US Department of Agriculture - Searchable site covering the seven mission areas of the department.
- USDA Economics and Statistics - Searchable statistical site of USDA information, maintained by Cornell University.
- Kentucky Agriculture Internet Directory - Very useful directory to federal and state resources on Kentucky agriculture. Not annotated.
- National Agriculture Library - The National Agricultural Library (NAL), part of the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is one of four National Libraries in the United States. NAL is a major international source for agriculture and related information. This Web site provides access to NAL's many resources and a gateway to its associated institutions.
- Agriculture FactBook - A handy reference tool that offers information about U.S. agriculture and describes all USDA programs. It also provides useful information about food safety, nutrition, rural issues, research, education, and natural resources; available in pdf format.

The dropdown box with Congressional Research Service Reports on the environment is helpful, but long. The Reference Resources box at the bottom of the homepage is useful. Includes governmental and non-governmental sites, including state briefing books.

- Envirofacts - Single point of access to selected EPA data, including maps, statistics, reports and some current journal full-text. Searchable, with assistance for both the novice and technical user. Not easy to use. Requires study of the database instructions, and some technical background.
- National Environmental Data Index - Access to environmental data provided by eleven separate government agencies. Multiple databases may be searched concurrently, using keywords and suggested discipline areas. Selecting appropriate databases and search terms must be done carefully and takes some time. Full text PDF files as search result. Requires patience. Recommendation: Simple searches should be done using MSU FirstSearch instead.
- Clinical Practice Guidelines - Developed with the support for the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR).
- MMWR: Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report - Prepared by the Centers for Disease Control, contains the yearly accumulation of selected full-text CDC publications including: Morbidity and mortality weekly report, MMWR recommendations and reports, and CDC surveillance summaries.
- National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) - The U.S.'s principal health statistics agency, providing statistical information including the International Classification of Diseases.
- CDC Wonder - A searchable database from the Center for Disease Control. Provides an "anonymous user" option allowing for anonymous searching without the requirement of ID or password. Includes CDC reports, guidelines and numeric public health data.

- Ameristat - From the Population Reference Bureau. This site provides a one-step means to access all types of information on US population. Good used with information from the Census Bureau's American Factfinder.

- Consolidated Federal Funds Reports, CFFR - A presentation of Federal Government expenditures or obligations in State, county, and subcounty areas of the United States covering 1983-1992. U.S. Territories and the District of Columbia are included. The data for this report were obtained from reporting systems which exist in various Federal Government agencies.
- County & City Data Book - Contains tables of data for States, regions and divisions, counties and cities of 25,000 or more and places of 2,500 or more.
- Occupational Outlook Handbook
- Ohio State University Library Census Index - This index does NOT include specific data from the censuses, but it does allow subject searching in order to determine which report title, census number, or document contains the information. Good first step when doing historical searching.
- Regional Economic Information System (REIS) - The Regional Economic Information System (REIS), from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, presents estimates of personal income and per capita personal income for 1969-1996.
- Statistical Abstract of the United States - A statistical reference and guide to over 250 statistical publications and sources from government and private organizations. They involve such topics as trade, crime, religion, population, health, taxes, etc.
