At MSU – Use RacerTrac
- Use RacerTrac, located on the home page under “Quick Links,” and on each Library Guides page
- Search simple keywords in the Basic search
- If that does not work well, use the Advanced search and combine simple words
- Use broad terms (books are about big topics)
- Use nouns (they work better)
- Start with one term and add others to narrow the search later
- In the results list, click on the title to open an information page about that title
- The “call number” is the location of the book in the library. Write it down.
- Books or Media about the same subject are shelved together, so browse that call number area to find more.
Anywhere – Use WorldCat
- Register first for ILLiad, the interlibrary loan system
- Use WorldCat, located on the home page under “Quick Links,” and on each Library on Bb page to find materials outside of MSU.
- Limit the search to what you want – books, visual materials (includes movies), sound recordings (includes music), or musical scores (print only)
- Follow the same search techniques as above
- In the results list, click on the title to open up a page about that item
- If the item is marked with this icon, MURRAY STATE UNIV, then the MSU Library owns a copy. Come in and check it out!
- If no MSU icon appears, we do not own it. Use the
icon to order the item from another library.
