A. Public Opinion
The Roper Center offers public opinions and polls which have been done. You can view presidential approval ratings from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Bill Clinton.
Vox Pop is a guide to on-line politics. This site provides the ability to e-mail senators or governors of states. There is information on the stands that politicians take on issues, and stands from the left and the right. Some political humor is also available to take the mind off such serious matters.
B. Interest Groups shows a listing of many various interest groups.
Common Cause attempts to track "special interest" money. It supports public financing of elections and follows "who gives how much to whom, and why." It assumes that "special interests" (Tobacco, NRA, Big Business, etc.) are buying more than access with campaign contributions. The Center for Responsive Politics also tracks campaign-finance issues and both groups analyze information provided by the Federal Election Commission. The Democrats -- The 1996 Party Platform is the official site of the Democratic National Committee. Read about the democratic platform, democratic position papers, and state by state democratic accomplishments.

The Republicans -- The 1996 Party Platform This gives current issues of the Republican party. Many articles are available to view. An opportunity is given to sign up and support the Republican National Committee.
State GOP Sites Each state has an information page with various indexes. However, all state has biographies and information on their elected representatives. Most sites have weekly updates to allow on-line viewers to keep up with what is happening in each state.

Web Archive 96, in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institution, has created the 1996 Presidential Archived Website . This website includes campaign material from the general election sites, the presidential candidates, the caucuses and primaries, and the parodies. According to Geoffrey Mack, Manager of User Services at Alexa Internet, "each web site was gathered, archived, and recreated in as complete a manner as possible. WashingtonPost.Com has launched a Politics and Your Government section aimed at helping people make sense of politics and public policy. Among its features are an archive of Washington Post polls with an interactive "polltaker" that compares your views with those of actual poll respondents. The section also includes a campaign button puzzle and in-depth guides to government officials, federal agencies, and important issues on the national agenda.

A. The Policy Process
Policy.com is a comprehensive public policy resource. It showcases leading research, opinions and events shaping public policy on dozens of issues including education, technology, and healthcare. Policy.com is non-partisan and free to users.
WashgtonPost.com has created a Budget Special Report that reviews the 1999 budget plan submitted by President Clinton. This plan calls for spending $1.733 trillion and collecting $1.743 trillion. Because the budget contains many new spending initiatives and tax breaks while cutting the budget of only one department (Agriculture) a surplus is possible only if the government collects the $65 billion it anticipates receiving as part of a tobacco industry settlement.
B. The Legislative Branch
Research Interview Notes of Richard F. Fenno, Jr., describes the interview notes of Professor Fenno. These notes, which have been donated to the National Archives and Records Administration, cover nearly ninety interviews with members of the House of Representatives conducted between 1959 and 1965. The interview notes represent the source material for two books: The Power of the Purse, published in 1966, and Congressmen in Committees, published in 1973.

The Avalon Project at Yale Law School has posted ninety-two documents from the 1963 Cuban Missile Crisis.
The President Under Fire has coverage of Zippergate by New York Times reporters. The Starr Report is available on numerous sites, including the U.S. House of Representatives, AltaVista, American Online, CNN, and Thomas. D. The Federal Bureaucracy
The National Security Archive is an independent non-governmental research institute and library located at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. The Archive collects and publishes declassified documents acquired throughout the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The Archive has published "The Inspector General's Survey of the Cuban Operation," a highly critical internal inquiry into the CIA's Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961. The 150-page report was one of the most secret documents of the Cold War.
Government Printing Office (GPO Access) has free electronic access to information produced by the Federal Government. There is access to government information databases and tools to assist in finding government information.
FedWorld is a page which is a comprehensive central access point for searching, locating, ordering, and acquiring government and business information.
Smithsonian provides information on each subject area within the Smithsonian. Information on publications and media of the Smithsonian, a calendar of events, exhibits of the Smithsonian, and volunteer opportunities is available.
