Programs and Presentations
The Murray State University Public Safety Department offers crime prevention and safety related programs to the university community. In addition, programs and information are available to the local and regional communities as part of our outreach initiatives.
The following crime prevention and safety programs are available:
Violence in the Workplace: discusses how to identify potentially violent behavior, types of violence, how to prevent situations, and how to react.
Alcohol Awareness: review of associated Ky laws dealing with drunk driving, alcohol-related crimes, and alcohol effects. Simulated intoxication demonstration is used.
Rape and Sexual Assault Awareness: discusses stranger rape v. acquaintance rape, victim options in a rape situation, strategies to reduce the risk of being a victim, and date rape drugs.
Traffic Safety Issues: discusses various related topics such as speed enforcement, parking control, signs and markings, pedestrian/motorist responsibilities, seat belt , reporting accidents.
Don’t Be A Victim: emphasizes personal safety and protecting your property. Demonstration of self defense techniques, discussion of personal alarms, and use of escorts on campus.
Drug Awareness: discusses drug effects, legal penalties associated with use, sale and manufacture, and how to seek substance abuse help.
Public Safety Department Overview and Campus-Oriented Policing: discusses the role and makeup of the Public Safety Department (University Police), services, and campus-oriented policing strategy.
Safety and Security Reviews are provided to all university community groups or departments will physical security concerns.
Funds Handling: information designed for the departments, organizations, or businesses occupying university property. Included is recognizing counterfeit money, credit card fraud, robbery response, and other related topics determined by the requestor.
