Program Requirements in Finance*

(The B.A. degree requires 12 hours of a foreign language; the B.S. degree does not.)

University Studies Requirements (64-70 hrs.):
Communications and Basic Skills (9 hours):
ENG 101 Composition; AND 3 hours
ENG 102 Composition and Research; OR 3 hours

COM 161 Introduction to Public Speaking 3 hours

Science and Mathematics (11-12 hours):
One science course with lab from list of University Studies electives 4-5 hours
MAT 140 College Algebra 4 hours
MAT 220 Business Calculus  3 hours

Humanities and Fine Arts (9 hours):
HUM 211* The Western Humanities Tradition 3 hours
HUM 212* The Humanities in the Modern World 3 hours

Six of the above hours must be upper-level courses completed in residence at Murray State University.

*Note: At Murray State University, we have a term that is a little tricky until you get used to it: an area in a subject. At Murray State, if you major in a field, you must have a minor in a field as well. (For example, you can major in Business Administration and minor in Psychology.) However, if you do not want a minor in a subject, you are said to pursue an area instead of a major. The requirements for an area are just as rigorous as the requirements for a major; the name assigned to it is just different - it simply means that you have chosen not to minor in a subject. That is the reason that the title at the top of the page says an "Area in Finance" and not a "Major in Finance."
