Goals of Professional Development Institute II

  • Receive feedback about plans for implementation of inquiry-based activities in your science course(es);
  • Conduct additional work on improving evaluation and assessment skills; and
  • Begin examination of various forms of scholarship about teaching and learning that includes ideas about design and implementation of research and scholarship.
  • Participants MUST BRING the following as each is necessary for the workshop activities:
  • One copy of a syllabus for a class that you intend to "reform" (also a schedule of course activities if those are not described in your syllabus)
  • Three copies of a final exam for the same class as above
  • Any written materials you have produced for use in a class a a result of the May workshop (class activities, "lab" activities, assessment instruments, etc.)
  • Other items to bring:

  • Your FIRST II binder (with all contents) and black notebook
  • Your team's Active Learning book by Johnson, Johnson, and Smith
  •  
    Haluk Cetin (MSU) explains examples of different types of assessment
    for a geoscience activity
