In Dynamics, students learn to apply the equations of motion to accelerating systems. With an incredibly broad range of applications from vehicle suspension systems to predicting the trajectory of a launched rocket, this course provides a variety of opportunities for design. Over the past several years, students have been challenged to design, build and test trebuchets, brick-powered vehicles, and water-propelled vehicles. As in every realistic design, each project included specific design contraints. In all of these projects, the student teams compete against one another so optimizing their designs is quite important. Therefore, students use analytical and numerical techniques to optimize their designs.
