International Experience in Engineering -- EGR 388

The Department of Engineering & Physics offers the International Experience in Engineering, a spring-break study tour of southern England. The itinerary is centered on London, but includes stops in Bristol, Bath, Oxford, and Cambridge. During this trip, faculty and students are treated to tours of historical engineering works such as Stonehenge, the ancient Roman baths at Bath, and the mechanical spaces inside London’s Tower Bridge.  More modern engineering sites include the Thames Water Barrier and Bristol University’s earthquake dynamics lab. An off day is scheduled during the week on which many choose to take a day to zip through the Channel Tunnel to experience Paris, as well!

During the experience, students document examples of good engineering design in their travel experience and enjoy seeing firsthand how different cultures have approached a variety of engineering solutions. Future trips may also include photographic or video diaries of the trip.
