Student

Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited
to get a first look at Murray State University's newest
facility - the Student Recreation and Wellness Center
- on Tuesday, Dec. 14. An open house is scheduled from
noon to 5 p.m. in the center.
The 73,000-square-foot center is a state-of-the-art
fitness facility. It contains three full-size basketball
courts with hardwood floors; a swimming pool featuring
lap and leisure swim areas, a whirlpool, vortex and
water bench; two racquetball courts; a walking/jogging
track; and a café and lounge with internet access.
In addition, the center houses an aerobic studio with
hardwood floor, mirrors, ballet bar and sound system;
and free weights and cardio workout machines.
The facility has men's and women's locker rooms and
a multipurpose room for meetings, classes and workout
sessions.
Students at MSU are automatically members of the center.
The facility is funded by student fees. Other members
of the university community are eligible for memberships,
but are required to pay a membership fee as well.
On Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 10 and 11, the center's
facilities will be open to MSU faculty and staff and
their families. There is no membership required for
those two days. Hours will be 5-10 p.m. each day.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 12 and 13, the center
is open to MSU alumni and their families for fitness
and recreation, also at no charge. Hours of operation
on those days will be 5-10 p.m. The center's grand opening
is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15.
