eXroads.com, The Electronic Crossroads of TelecommunicationsIn today's information driven society, an up-to-date, comprehensive listing of telecommunication resources is crucial to the research and business interests of the telecommunication professional, scholar, and student. The Electronic Crossroads, www.eXroads.com, a web-portal of telecommunications links and documents, has been developed by the Center for Telecommunications Systems Management (CTSM) at Murray State University, with the intent of providing users with such a library of information. Currently, eXroads.com has over 27,000 links and documents to various telecommunications sources and is expanding daily. Undoubtedly, technology changes so rapidly that a site like eXroads.com is not likely to be complete. However, eXroads.com appears to be the most extensive of its kind in the world. To make the site as user-friendly as possible, eight main categories are available on eXroads.com: Business, Education, Government, Law, International, News and Publications, Reference Tools, and Research. Under these main categories, there are over 400 sub-categories. These categories and sub-categories may be browsed to locate the information the user is seeking. The availability of an easy-to-use search engine allows the user to explore the eXroads.com database using key words. To help users check the most popular sites, eXroads.com provides a list of the top 5 links, an up-to-date news ticker, and a list of some of the latest breaking information about telecommunications and information technology. All new entries on the linked web pages are recorded in a database so updates are made automatically to the site. If users know of a useful link, document, or other information that is not in the eXroads database, they may submit it using an online form found on the website. The CTSM staff will review and screen all submissions, and add to the database as seen fit. eXroads.com intends to become one of the most prominent sources of telecommunications related data and supplemental reference points on the Web. It's anticipated to be a veritable warehouse of information, as well as the "electronic crossroads" from which a preponderance of research, business information, and other queries proceed. You are encouraged to visit www.eXroads.com and use it as a research tool. E-mail your comments to exroads@murraystate.edu. |
