Michael Hegeman, CEO of Hegeman Consulting in Atlanta, brought his knowledge about wireless technology to the Murray State campus on Thursday, November 15, 2001. He held informative sessions with the Computer Information Systems staff and the Telecommunications Systems Management (TSM) faculty regarding incorporation of wireless into the campus infrastructure and curriculum.
The highlight of Hegeman's visit was his 60-minute presentation to students in which he explained why he is betting his career on the wireless industry, which economically will be a 100 billion dollar industry by 2005. "Wireless will create new revenue channels for businesses, make them more efficient and more competitive," Hegeman stated. He told the students "The target applications will be in finance, information services, retail, travel and entertainment." "Wireless is a strategy that enables mobility. Mobility will be a key to doing business for many industries. No longer will the customers want to wait for the salesperson to get back with them in a few days," said Hegeman. The world of commerce says, "Get me an answer now."
"Hegeman's visit will impact the TSM program at Murray State," said Dr. Phillip Sparks of the Center for TSM. Already there is talk about incorporating more wireless technology into the curriculum.
