FAQ'S
Q. How do I participate in a group fitness class?
A. To participate in group fitness classes, each participant must have filled out a PAR-Q and have a sticker on their facility ID card. Front desk workers will check that each participant has a sticker on their facility ID card. No sticker = NO ENTRY
Q. What is a PAR-Q and why do I have to fill it out?
A. A PAR-Q is a health form asking you a series of questions. Answering all no's on the form allows you to receive a sticker on your facility ID card and to participate in any group fitness class. Answering yes to any of the questions targets a person as a possible health risk and is required to get a physician's consent in order to receive the sticker on your facility ID card and to participate in group fitness classes.
Q. Do I have to pay to participate in group fitness classes?
A. No. As a member of the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) you have access to all group fitness classes.
Q. Do I have to sign up for classes?
A. Yes. All participants have to reserve a spot in a class except for the classes; Tai Chi, Faculty-Staff Step, Tai Chi, and Deep Aqua Action. For reserving a spot in a group fitness class, you must call the SRWC at 762-6000. Starting the day of the class participants can call to reserve 2 spots, 1for themselves and 1 for a friend in a class.
Q. Can I see if I can participate in a group fitness class right before it starts without calling?
A. Yes, as long as the class is not already full you are welcome to join.
Q. What if the class is full?
A. When you call and the class is full, a standby list is put into place. The next 2 participants who call in a spot, after the class is filled, are told they are put on the standby list. If one the of the participants who reserved a spot do not show up for the class, the first stanby person is called and allowed to participate in the class.
Q. What times do you offer the group fitness classes?
A. The group fitness class schedule can be found on the Murray State University Student Recreation and Wellness Center website.
Q. What happens if my sticker on my facility ID card comes off?
A. Come to the SRWC front desk and the front desk personnel can put a new sticker on for you once they locate your signed and okayed PAR-Q. We have all of the participants' PAR-Q's on file.
Q. What happens if I bring a guest with me? Can they participate too?
A. Yes, but only if they fill out a PAR-Q and get a sticker for their guest pass.
Q. What if a piece of equipment is broken?
A. Notify the instructor immediately. This is for your safety and for other's safety. If the piece of equipment brakes outside of class then notify the front desk immediately.
Q. What if I become interested in becoming an instructor for a class already offered or for a new class?
A. Excellent! The Student Recreation and Wellness Center is always looking for more instructors and new ideas. There is an Instructor Interest Form on the door of the Assessment Room to fill out so we can contact you. Otherwise, contact Amelia Dodd at ameliaadodd@murray-ky.net.
Q. I have a suggestion or a comment about a class I am taking or wanting to see on the schedule, who do I tell?
A. Nearing the end of each semester for 1 week we will be passing out evaluation surveys before each class. You can put your comments/suggestions on the evaluation. The evaluation survey is anonymous. Please take the time to comment on the classes.
Q. What if I wanted to fill out an evaluation survey, but the class was full during the week everyone filled it out?
A. That's okay. Just stop by the front desk during that week and ask to fill one out.
