The Musculoskeletal Evaluation Lab in the Department of Applied Health Sciences is designed to give Athletic Training and Exercise Science students the ability to master hands-on skills related to musculoskeletal injury evaluative and diagnostic procedures. Innovative techniques such as musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasound are demonstrated and practiced throughout the curriculum. Using evidence-based practice principles, diagnostic skillsets include evaluative competencies in:

  • Palpation
  • Range of motion
  • Muscular strength, power, and endurance
  • Special and ligamentous stress tests
  • Neurologic examination
  • Functional testing

The Therapeutic Interventions Lab in the Department of Applied Health Sciences is designed to give Athletic Training and Exercise Science students the ability to master hands-on skills related to therapeutic modalities and therapeutic exercise. Therapeutic modality skillsets include competencies in:

  • Therapeutic ultrasound
  • Electrical stimulation, Thermotherapy and Cryotherapy
  • Biofeedback
  • Therapeutic laser
  • Mechanical traction
  • Massage
  • Shortwave diathermy

Therapeutic exercise skillsets include competencies in:

  • Manual therapy techniques (joint mobilization and traction)
