Why did you choose Murray State?

I wanted to live in Kentucky -- "horse country" -- and Murray State was a school that had both an agriculture and an art program that really impressed me. I got on board with a scholarship and the track team, and there was no passing it up.

What do you want to do after graduation?

I pray that I will be going to professional school, be it in veterinary medicine or human medicine. I hope to run an Ironman soon after I graduate, and, no doubt, I want to farm.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I lead a bible study at the Baptist Campus Ministry and attend various events with the BCM. I do research in the department of agriculture with the BioBurner unit installed at an off-campus facility. I play intramural soccer, and I run and workout five days a week (when I am not studying for finals!). I enjoy hunting and fishing, playing piano, drawing and painting, and I write some poetry.

What’s something you’ve accomplished at MSU that you’re most proud of and why?
The life lessons to which I have learned and clung. It took me a while to understand that an A is just a letter, that textbooks are just full of ink on pages. We go to school to improve the gifts and talents that we have already been given. The most carefully planned plan is usually the worst executed. My accomplishment has been finally understanding these things, which is HUGE!

What advice would you give high school students about college?
Enjoy it! Embrace the experience. The education is just part of the final product. You learn about who you are and how to love people from all walks of life. Keep an open mind while staying grounded.

Anne says:
These scholarships have really challenged my courage to reach my full potential in areas that I had little experience in before coming to college. The research aspect has truly broadened my intellectual horizons and has motivated me to really crave knowledge about matters I am passionate about.

With the intent of pursuing a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, I feel that the Fellowship has better prepared me to tackle the load and expectation of a graduate level program.
