Activities and Organizations
One year, my family was on the receiving end of a Christmas party given by one of our sororities. It was wonderful, and I will never forget it!
Who has influenced you the most in your life and why?
My mother. She was so very intelligent, but never got the chance to attend college. I really want to get my degree for her as well as myself!
What first sparked your interest in your chosen field?
I fell in love with literature a very long time ago, and especially Charles Dickens! One of my dreams is to be responsible for a great work of literature which may affect others as much as Dickens has affected me.
What do you want to do after graduation?
I would like to work for a publisher as an editor, and hopefully a writer.
Why did you select Murray State?
Murray State was always there for me each time I was ready to take the next step towards my goal. They are so great for the nontraditional student!
Who is one of your favorite professors and why?
Helen Ralston has been one of my favorites! She knows everything and I especially enjoyed her class on the film and literature. I also really like Megan Wilson. She is so helpful and encouraging, and always takes the time to help in any way she can!
What is one of your favorite Murray State traditions/experiences?
I really enjoy Racer basketball. Everyone gets so excited and Murray fills up with people!
What is something you've accomplished at Murray State that you're most proud of and why are you proud of it?
When I came back last semester, it had been about ten years since I had been in school. The last class I took before that really discouraged me, because I did not have technical skills. Visual aid was not required for my presentation, but I felt humiliated because I did not know how to do it and was only one of two students in the class without it to accompany my presentation. Needless to say, I was very nervous coming back to an environment which had intimidated me so much ten years before. I am very proud that not only did I get through my first semester back, but I earned all As in my classes! It may sound simple, but it is a very important accomplishment and set the stage for everything else I am doing and will do in the future!
What do you think sets Murray State apart from other universities?
Murray State is definitely committed to the success of its students. When I came back last semester to finally finish my degree, they were so excited to welcome me back and have done nothing but encourage me every step of the way!
For a prospective student considering which college to attend, why do you think they should consider attending Murray State?
Coming to Murray State, students will find a great university with plenty of hard-working and caring administrators. The town itself is also pretty great. If a student cannot come here physically, he or she will have everything needed to be successful as a distance learner. I can honestly say, distance learning through Murray State is awesome! The library is absolutely accessible, which was my most eye-opening surprise when I returned.
